Terraseeding is an excellent choice, if your lawn has not received it’s final grading or you are not sure about the quality of the loam you have. Grading is very labor intensive and can be difficult to do properly for the novice. Landscape Support Services staff is very knowledgeable and can do the final grading as we Terraseed your lawn.

What is Terraseeding?

Terraseeding is a unique patented process, similar to a heavy topdressing application, in which a 1" layer of compost and seed are installed over your existing soil. Final grading and seeding can be completed in one easy step. The seed is incorporated right into the mix; so excellent soil/seed contact is achieved. This provides the perfect environment for germination of your new lawn; seed is actually planted as apposed to laying on the surface as in a Hydroseeding application.

Advantages of Terraseeding
  • Compost and seed can be installed easily, even in hard to reach areas, such as gated or terraced backyards.
  • Better soil /seed contact than hydroseeding
  • Grading is accomplished without the complications associated with compaction from bulldozers or Bobcats.
  • Properly composted yard waste contains very few weed seeds
  • During colder temperatures seed may germinate more quickly do to the warmth generated by compost
Loam found here in southern New Hampshire can be sandy and low in organic material. In many cases forest loams may be very acidic as well. This can cause vital nutrients to be chemically bonded in such a way that they are not available for your lawn to use. Sand is good for reducing compaction, but allows too much water and nutrients to pass beyond the root zone before your lawn has the opportunity to use them. This is called leaching, you may have heard this term used before, as it is a major cause of groundwater pollution and will cause you to waste money on irrigation and fertilizers. Organic matter acts like a sponge and holds on to water and the nutrients that water carries. Making sure the soils that your lawn grows in have the appropriate amount of organic material and the right ph helps to insure that your lawn will have the proper building blocks for success. Landscape Support Services can correct these problems as we Terraseed your lawn, by using the correct blend of compost, lime and seed, thus creating the ideal medium for growing your new lawn.
